On September 29th, 2019, International Symposium on Ethiopian Studies and China-Ethiopia Relations was held successfully in TUTE (Tianjin University of Technology and Education) . The symposium was sponsored by TUTE, and organized by Center of African Union Studies, Institute of Ethiopian Studies at Addis Ababa University and Confucius Institute at Addis Ababa University.
Over 80 scholars and experts from China and Ethiopia attended the symposium. Mr. Zhang Jingang, Chairman of School Board of TUTE, Mrs Eden Amsalu, Vice President of Bahir Dar University gave remarks in the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Prof. Yan Bing, Vice president of TUTE.
H. E. Xie Xiaoyan, former Ambassador of China to Ethiopia, Honorable Director of CAUS, Prof. Li Anshan, Chairman of the Chinese Academic Society of African Historical Studies , Prof. Tan Huijuan, Director of Institute of African and African-American Literature Studies at Hangzhou Dianzi University, Prof. Desalegn Amsalu Tegegn, Research Head of Institute of Ethiopian Studies at Addis Ababa University, Prof. Messay Mulugeta Tefera, from College of Development Studies at Addis Ababa University, Prof. Mohammed Seid Ali from Bahir Dar University gave keynote speeches as invited.
More than twenty scholars from China and Ethiopia presented their papers in the panel discussions in the afternoon. China-Ethiopia cooperation and the political, economic, cultural, education, medical dynamics in Ethiopia are the major themes discussed during the symposium.
The Center of African Union Studies ( CAUS) of Tianjin University of Technology and Education is a academic research institute focusing on China and Ethiopia. By organizing the symposium, CASU aims to build a platform for academic exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Ethiopian scholars, and to promote the systematic development of Ethiopian studies in China, and to facilitate the further deepening and development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Ethiopia.
